My husband is hard to please when it comes to chocolate. Most of the speciality chocolate bars he’s into are local, organic and cost $9 per bar. That’s why I knew he would be my best taste testing partner in a seriously difficult task ahead of me: to review an exclusive box of Belgian chocolates from Whole Foods Market. I know, what a hard job I have! Taste testing chocolates…yes!
This Valentines, I’ve got a steal of a deal for you! Don’t don’t miss out on this heart shaped treasure of fourteen rich Belgian chocolates from Whole Foods Market, each like its own little gift of love tucked inside a chocolate hug. And it’s only $9.99!
Our Tasting Verdict:
While we found the chocolate overall to be of a very good quality, there were clearly some winners that stood out above the rest.
Ebony: a dark chocolate with dark truffle cream on the inside. Oh, this chocolate is creamy and and fills your whole mouth with chocolate on top of chocolate… on top of chocolate!
Princesse: this little chocolate was quite a delightful surprise because the dark chocolate on the outside is nice and creamy but when you bite into it, a crunchy surprise of hazelnut gives you an extra nutty crunchy kick.
Panini: this sweet chocolate shaped like a heart and wrapped in red foil is milk chocolate on the outside with a hazelnut cream on the inside, and includes tiny crunchy hazelnut pieces. Yum!
Temptation: this was our surprise favorite, as we don’t usually like flavored fruit chocolate; the inner raspberry filling is light and bright with a crunchy raspberry sugar on the outside.
Our least favorites:
Blanche Neige: with a pretty French name – “white snow” – and beautiful shape of a heart, I wanted to love it but just couldn’t. White chocolate is just too sweet for me. Give this one to your little brother or sister!
Demi Vanille: another pretty milk chocolate piece with a base of marzipan. Oh, no, not marzipan! This is an acquired taste that many Europeans love. Give this one to your favorite European friend.
For the price of $9.99, I just don’t think you can go wrong with this beautifully heart shaped box of Belgian chocolates.
Where to buy this box of chocolates:
You can buy this chocolate box at your local Whole Foods Market. Look for it in the part of the store where Valentines gifts and food items are being promoted. In my local store, this was near the deli section, but I usually ask someone who works at Whole Foods to help me. Their staff is always so helpful and glad to find things that are often right in front of my face!
Unfortunately, if you have a wheat, egg, nut or milk allergy, this particular box of chocolates does contain these ingredients. While taste testing this chocolate, given my own food allergies, I had the generous help of my husband to share each bite and reduce my allergy irritations.
The only downside to buying this box of chocolates is that you may eat it within 14 seconds because you have to take a bite of each one to see what treasure lies inside!
And we’d suggest you print out this adorable free Valentines Card from JoyFoodly to make your loved one feel extra special when they open their Valentines Gift from you!
Note to readers: we are grateful to Whole Foods Market for supplying a box of chocolates to taste test for this post. My opinions are my own, and I have not received compensation for this review. I bought an extra box just because I knew my husband would eat and love them…and he did!
